Gardening is bigger than ever. A whopping 18.3 million gardeners took up the hobby for the first time in 2020 according to the 2021 National Gardening Survey, while more than two-thirds of adults are currently growing or plan to grow their own veggies, herbs or fruits. Coupled with continued seasonal sell-outs of seed varieties from Baker Creek, Gurney’s and more, people are greening their thumbs at an inspiring rate.

With the growth in gardening (and plants!) nationwide, now is the perfect time to share some refreshing updates to our long-running Shared Earth garden-sharing platform! Shared Earth is our free tool dedicated to connecting gardeners and landowners to help make better (and tastier) use of the planet, one garden at a time.

From matching gardeners and landowners based upon proximity and needs, to messaging and managing gardening arrangements, Shared Earth has been used by more than 15,000 members since 2015.

Our teams have been working hard over the past several months, planting new seeds, strengthening old roots and building a new and improved platform for all gardeners and landowners to enjoy as they prepare their gardens for this growing season and beyond. Below are a few of our favorite updates rolling out to members shortly.

Multiple listing management

Got more than one garden you need help in? Or want to offer up your green thumb in multiple cities? We’ve updated Shared Earth to allow accounts to have multiple listings, making it easier than ever to grow your network and your plants.

Shared Earth

Improved profiles and messaging

User profiles and messaging got a much needed upgrade, allowing users to offer more context about what they’re growing and better manage their connections and conversations with other Shared Earth users.

Shared Earth

Refreshed design and user experience

We gave the entire Shared Earth experience a fresh coat of (virtual) paint to improve usability across the board. New filtering functionality makes it simple to discover gardener and landowner listings, while improvements to the map, icons and mobile experience give you all you need to know at a glance.

Shared Earth

With more than 40 million acres of unproductive land in residential backyards and commercial properties throughout the U.S., there’s never been a better time to get to gardening, whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned seed vet! With Shared Earth you can start enjoying the fruits of your labor alongside your neighbors, and help make a healthier and more effective local food system.
